When can my child/young person join?

The starting age for beavers is 6 but it is a good idea to add your child to our waiting list as soon as possible, as places are usually in high demand.

Looking ahead, young people can join Cubs from around the age of 8 and Scouts from 10½. Young people in 12th Harpenden Beavers are guaranteed a place in 12th Harpenden Cubs at age 8, and those in 12th Harpenden Cubs are guaranteed a place in 12th Harpenden Scouts at age 10½

Waiting List policy

Our policy is to give priority to:

1. children of our adult volunteer leaders
2. younger siblings of existing members

We then allocate places according to time on the waiting list.

District Waiting list

If we are unable to offer a place soon after your child reaches the age of 6 then your details will be passed to a central waiting list for Harpenden District, and places offered in other beaver colonies if available. If no places are available, your details are retained on the District waiting list and offers will be made in beavers, cubs or scouts as and when places arise
