When can my child/young person join?
The starting age for beavers is 6 but it is a good idea to add your child to our waiting list as soon as possible, as places are usually in high demand.
Looking ahead, young people can join Cubs from around the age of 8 and Scouts from 10½. Young people in 12th Harpenden Beavers are guaranteed a place in 12th Harpenden Cubs at age 8, and those in 12th Harpenden Cubs are guaranteed a place in 12th Harpenden Scouts at age 10½

When are places offered to new beavers?
Places are offered to young people as and when they are available, at the beginning of each term. We generally offer places at beavers to twelve children each year, at the beginning of the term following their 6th birthday. So for a young person born between:
- 1 January and 31 March: places offered in April (i.e. Summer term) after they turn 6
- 1 April and 31 Aug: places offered in September (i.e. Autumn term) after they turn 6
- 1 September and 31 December: places offered in January (i.e. Spring term) after they turn 6
